Understanding your FIT results

Your results, explained clearly.

A negative result means no blood was detected in your sample — that’s great news, but regular screening is still important.

A positive result doesn’t mean you have cancer, only that blood was detected and further testing is recommended to learn more.

What if my test is positive?

Next steps, made simple.

A positive result on your TopazFIT test means blood was detected in your stool sample — but it does not automatically mean cancer. There are many possible causes, such as polyps or minor digestive issues.

Our partners at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance can connect you with a patient navigator to guide you through your next steps and support you with resources, questions, and care coordination.

Taking action early is one of the most powerful ways to protect your health.

Frequently asked questions

Explore all FAQs →
How much stool sample do I need to collect?

Not much at all!

Stick the collection wand (blue cap) into the feces 6-8 times vertically.

The collected sample should only be enough to cover the grooves in the bottom of your collection wand.

Do I need to change my diet before using a FIT?

No!

Unlike guaiac-based fecal occult blood tests, the Topaz FIT does not require dietary or medication restrictions.

You can continue your normal routine before testing.

Does my stool sample need to be solid?

No, your stool does not need to be solid when using the test.

It is acceptable to collect samples from very loose or hard stools.

I made a mistake collecting my sample. What should I do?

No worries!

If you collected too much sample, wipe the excess sample partially on the collection paper to reduce the amount of collected sample.

How do I read my results?
  • Positive: Two lines (C and T) → Occult blood detected.
  • Negative: One line (C only) → No occult blood detected.
  • Invalid: No line at C → Test did not run correctly, repeat with a new test.

When to avoid taking the test:

Do not take the test if you are currently menstruating, have active hemorrhoid bleeding, or are passing blood in your urine, as these can cause false-positive results
